Ladies 1st’s - NE14 Hockey East Women’s Hockey League Division 1N St Ives 2 – March 0 A minutes silence was held at the start of the game out of respect for March Ladies 1st sponsor Brandon Bolt owner Geoff Allen. In the reverse of this fixture March were 0-8 down at half time but this time March showed good attacking moves and passed the ball well. There was a good attacking hockey between both teams although March were the ones with the early chances. Things were even going into half time 0-0. March continued their very strong performance and chances came from Emma Baker, Lauren Oakman, Verity Allen and Robyn Gribble. St Ives scored a goal for the 10 minutes before the end. March continued to press after the goal with a shot from a short corner from Emma Baker hitting the post. St Ives again broke and scored from the last hit of the game. March were proud of a very good team performance. Team: Julie Ingham, Hannah Foad, Gemma Parr, Lorraine Parker, Verity Allen, Lauren Oakman, Robyn Gribble, Anna Whittome, Liz Robinson, Shereen Hutton, Emma Baker. Ladies 2nd’s - Cambridgeshire Women’s Hockey League Division 1 March ladies 2X1 1 - 3 St Ives III Halfway through the first half March went down 1-0 to a well struck short corner and St Ives completed their fine first half display with a second goal. Petrina Cartwright twice went close from short corners. March finally scored through Cartwright and pushed for the equaliser. Despite some great defending by the stretched March defence, including player of the Match, Maria Shackloth march conceded a late goal and the game finished 1 -3 . March travel to Saffron Walden next Saturday which will complete a 3 match run of playing the 3 top teams. Mens 1st’s 3NW
The A fine reverse stick shot from Jacob Fraser opened the scoring for March and this was followed by a well worked short corner which was converted by Josh Birt. Ladies 1st’s - NE14 Hockey East Women’s Hockey League Division 1N March 1 Watton 5 March started poorly and a quick attack from Watton saw the visitors 0-1 up. March responsed well with good work from Anna Whittome and Shereen Hutton. March continued to press and a good run by Robyn Gribble and a great strike from the edge of the circle saw the scores level. March started off slow after the break and soon found themselves 1-2 from a short corner. Good defensive work from player of the match Gemma Parr could not keep the visitors at bay and march conceeded 3 more form open play. Great saves from Goal keeper Julie Ingham stopped it from being more. Ladies 1st’s - NE14 Hockey East Women’s Hockey League Division 1N No report provided- if one follows I will forward. Ladies 2nd’s - Cambridgeshire Women’s Hockey League Division 1 March 2nd’s 3 vs Sawtry 2 Mens 1st’s 3NW and Mens 2nd’s 3NW With the players knowing each other so well, a match between the March 1st and 2nd teams was an exciting prospect. Unfortunately very poor weather contributed to a scrappy disappointing game with a total of 18 penalty corners being awarded. The 1st team started the stronger , scoring 3 goals in the first 10 minutes from Betts, Graham and Birt. Cole for the firsts and Wallis for the seconds are both renowned for their pace and a good contest brightened the first-half. Betts scored a fourth for the firsts before Matt Wallis made the most of his speed to open the scoring for the seconds after good battling by captain Charlie Saunders. The seconds continued to pressurise and were unlucky to concede a fifth from After the break Wallis scored his second and it looked as if the seconds would get back into the game, Jacob Fraser playing particularly well in midfield. However, the firsts showed their strength by scoring 3 more goals from Betts (2) and Squads: 1st Team: Matt Lynn, Luke Westwood, Tom Cole, Matt Bamford, Adam Graham, Dave Webster, Ryan Wright, Dan Shirley, Josh Birt, Jody Betts, Ash Welland, Rob Mitchell 2nd Team: Scott Bamford, Charlie Saunders, Tony Manzie, Andy Wright, Chris Peckett, Jacob Fraser, Neil Liversedge, Matt Wallis, Tom Nickalls, Hugh Whittome, Sam Shepherd, Steve Birt
